Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal” simply means the time around pregnancy- including pregnancy, postpartum, and the journey of trying to conceive.

Perinatal mental health therapy focuses on the emotional and psychological challenges that can come with this stage of life. It’s support for moms and parents navigating all the ups, downs, and in-betweens of this season.

If you’ve found yourself googling “pregnancy anxiety,” “postpartum depression,” or “why do I feel like this after having a baby?” - you’re not alone.

Some of the most common struggles moms face include:

  • Anxiety that makes it hard to rest or enjoy the moment

  • Postpartum depression or “mom guilt” that weighs heavy

  • Irritability, anger, or rage that feels out of character

  • Stress from sleepless nights, hormonal shifts, and constant changes

  • Grief or heartbreak from fertility challenges, miscarriage, or birth trauma

  • Feeling disconnected from your baby, your partner, or yourself

  • Perinatal Depression (PPD)

  • Perinatal Anxiety (PPA)

  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) (including birth trauma)

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) (intrusive thoughts, compulsions, often around baby’s safety)

Many new moms also experience postpartum rage, which isn’t a formal diagnosis but often shows up alongside anxiety, depression, or trauma.

It’s important to remember that diagnoses are just one part of the picture- for some they may help create understanding of what’s happening, but therapy is about supporting you as a whole person, not a diagnosis.
